Gillian
I apologise if I have written this in the wrong place - I must have missed some information somewhere on how to use this site. Could you please tell me where the Media Browser is in Affinity Designer? I have looked in the help and it says in 'View' but I cannot see it. I did try to look here on forum as best as I could but could not find answer Also - Is there a separate section for questions about AD I can use if any further questions please? thank you
Staff MEB Posted August 15, 2017 Staff Share Posted August 15, 2017 Hi Gillian, Welcome to Affinity Forums The Media Browser is only available on the Mac version (it uses some third party code written for Mac only). Are you using Windows? If so the Media Browser references shouldn't be in the Help. There's no separate section for Affinity Designer since it shares functionality/features with Affinity Photo. Juts tag your thread with "Affinity Designer" or add AFdesigner or similar to the title. Gillian
Thanks for replying so swiftly...and yes I am using Windows so that is quite disappointing that feature is wrongly shown in help as it would be very useful. Does that means the 'place image' is the only way to add images?
Staff MEB Posted August 15, 2017 Staff Share Posted August 15, 2017 Besides the Place Image Tool, you can also use the File ▸ Place... command or simply drag the images from a File Explorer window to the canvas of an existing document. You can also drag them over the toolbars/ui on top (or to the canvas if there's no documents open) to open them as new documents, so you are not missing much with the lack of the Media Browser. R C-R
Adding slightly to what MEB said, the Mac OS Media Browser is primarily intended as a way to browse through the image libraries some Mac apps like the Apple Photos one store image files in, which can't (or should not be) accessed directly. The Affinity version uses third party code to enhance that OS level feature slightly, but for images not stored in these libraries it isn't really needed, so Window users are not missing out on anything of importance.
