Toggle to move tool with CMD

Recommended Posts

i like to kick AI and starting with AD. AD looks very nice and comes with some features i've wishing for AI. but… is it possible i have to switch every time to the move tool (with shortcut V) when i like to move a shape and switch back to the last tool i'm working with?! in AI i use every time the CMD shortcut to move an object without switching my tool i'm working with. by the path tool i can switch with CMD to the point tool, this is ok to edit the path. but when i like to move the shape i need to weitch again to the move tool. in AI i can draw with the path tool, move single points by holding CMD (like AD) and select the whole shape by clicking CMD ALT to move it with the point tool, when i release CMD and ALT i'm back to the path tool withouth switching any tool. such details are very important for me when i will get the switch from AI to AD. i can learn a new way of this, but it should be a useful way without switching tools anytime.

Hi pictomato,

and welcome here … :)

Unfortunately, all these modifier keys are already assigned. But when you are using the Pen Tool, you can simply toggle between the Move Tool and the Pen Tool by (repeatedly) typing “V”. It works with any other drawing tool as well. There is no need to remember tool shortcuts, except for that single one.

I don’t think this is more difficult than pressing two modifier keys, and you gain the full power of the Move Tool for the “global” transform steps. It’s just a different approach. And please be aware that you can resume your Pen Tool work precisely at the point where you left off, when you are toggling back using the “V” shortcut.

Hope that helps … :)

Alex
