Staff MEB Posted August 14, 2017 Staff Share Posted August 14, 2017 Hi Nityanandachandra, Welcome to Affinity Forums Tap and hold whatever layer (let's say an image) you want to place inside the text in the Layers panel until a small blue horizontal line appears, then drag it over the text layer to use the text object as a clipping layer. Nityanandachandra
Thank you very much. How can I do step that is at 8:27 in this tutorial video? Making a selection from the text? The video is subtitled.

toltec
I don't know if you can do this on an iPad. In Windows I typed the text put a black rectangle behind the text subtracted the text (boolean) Obviously, didn't do the fancy close together text but the principle is the same. Very quick and easy. Just an alternative idea. Quote Windows PCs. Photo and Designer, latest non-beta versions.
Staff MEB Posted August 15, 2017 Staff Share Posted August 15, 2017 Hi Nityanandachandr, Select the text layer in the Layers Studio, change to the Pen Tool and tap To Selection on the context toolbar on bottom. This will convert the text to a selection. You can then convert it to a mask, tapping the mask icon on the top of the Layers Studio. As far as i know currently there's no way on iPad to load a selection from a layer as the desktop version. I see no context toolbar (what is it anyway), and thus, also not the "to selection". Thanks for giving a more teaspoon explanation.

Although this thread is in the ‘Affinity in Desktop Questions section, the original post On 8/14/2017 at 3:48 AM, Nityanandachandra said: How can this be done on iOS, the desktop tutorials do not work. indicates that it’s actually a question about the iPad apps. If you’re using one of the desktop apps, the Context toolbar — a toolbar whose options change depending on the context — will be at the top rather than the bottom. Either way, I’m not sure how you can say you don’t see it if you didn’t know what it is! Please state which Affinity app you’re using, and on what platform (Mac, Windows, or iPad).
