rickpumphrey
Hi! I'm considering buying Affinity Designer and Affinity Photo but first need clarification on licensing. I'm hoping I can buy a single license and use it on my Mac or PC. Is that possible or do I have to buy a license for each platform? Also, if I have to buy for each OS does that mean I can only license it to a single machine or can I use it on all of my systems? I'm not talking about concurrent use....only (1) user. I'm hoping it's like MODO which is user centric. One license for one user on any system or OS. Thank you! Rick
Staff MEB Posted August 8, 2017 Staff Share Posted August 8, 2017 Hi rickpumphrey, Welcome to Affinity Forums You have to buy one license for each OS/platform. Regarding the number of machines: you can install it on any machines you own/control as long as you are the only one using the software for commercial purposes. I hope the company is considering a more modern licensing scheme in the future. Yes, the product is inexpensive however buying both Affinity Designer and Affinity Photo for (2) computers (Windows and OSX) is pretty retro. There ought to at least be some kind of incentive to do that. I'll wait. Thanks again! Rick

The Mac versions are only sold via the Mac App Store, controlled by Apple; the Windows versions are only sold via the Affinity Store, controlled by Serif. Apple and Serif quite rightly don't share customer data with each other, so there's no way for them to determine whether you already own a licence for the other platform. Quote I'll wait. You may well wish to wait until the 1.6 versions are released. On past evidence, all versions of the apps will be heavily discounted. rickpumphrey
Okay. Entirely fair. I get that. I would assume if I bought now on either platform I'd get free upgrades? Also, is there version parity with OS X and Windows 10 on both Designer and Photo? Lastly, and I bet you can't say or maybe you can. When is 1.6 coming out? Thanks again! I would expect free upgrades for 1.x versions. No, there is no version parity as far as retail versions are concerned. Affinity apps for MacOS are a bit newer. Yes, there's version/feature parity between different platforms. Affinity files are cross-platform. Version 1.6 should be out in a couple months.
