AD 1.5.3.69 does not open after displaying splash screen

I just upgraded to AD 1.5.3.69 (from a version more recent than 1.5.1.43) and the problem I was hoping would resolve itself is still persisting:

  1. launch application;
  2. splash screen loads and displays current version;
  3. window does not open, yet application is running and the instance is visible in the task bar;
  4. when mouse-over instance in task bar the preview shows black box but no windows appears.

 

Running Windows 10: latest update not yet applied (2017-07 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1703 for x64-based Systems (KB4032188)).

The machine runs without issue, never crashes, and not running any of the applications listed in the section showing conflicts with AD.

 

I don't see a changelog or installer log in the application directories.

 

I uninstalled and reinstalled the same version in the title and still the same problem. I then uninstalled, and reinstalled 1.5.1.43 and the application loads correctly.
