Layer Masks: Using texture to mimic tshirt textures

In photoshop, you can take a photo image and apply it into a layer mask, then adjust it to create the desired tshirt graphic worn texture look. (see images) Can this be done in Affinity Photo? I have been playing around with the masks and haven't yet figured it out.

There is another interesting technique Photo offers. Slightly more complicated but lots of control over the result.

 

Remove the white from the texture by going Filter > Layers > Remove White Paper. Change the Layer Blend Mode to Erase.

 

All the black in the texture will now erase the pixels in the image layer. It looks initially the same as a mask but you have full opacity control which selectively applies the "erasing".

Windows PCs. Photo and Designer, latest non-beta versions.
