As mentioned recently on the Tidbits website, Adobe will stop updating & distributing Flash Player at the end of 2020. The Adobe News page is here, if you want to read the whole thing. TransType is generally considered the app to use and is windows and Mac compatible, they do a 7 day trial. Flash will be bad news for some of the online papers I read, ha-ha. I used an open source app called Fontforge to convert to OTF and TTF when I saw which way the wind was blowing. https://fontforge.org/en-US/downloads/mac-dl/ - I've not updated it to the lastest one so don't know if it's still as clunky (usability wise) as my version. - - - - - - I won't miss Flash either, though it was a fun when it came out. Free Type-1-Fonts have ever been rare. Most free fonts I have are Truetype or Opentype. And that they are free for use doesn't mean that you are allowed to manipulate them. That is the problem. I suppose it all comes down to the licence types and whether they already have various formats, negating the need to convert to other formats. Interesting question though that could highlight some ambiguity with regard to font format conversion. I would, if in doubt ask the font creator if they can supply an alternative format as most do.
