Jrpeterson5
I'm attempting to open DNG files from iCloud Drive. They are taken from a Mavic Pro. When I select the thumbnail it just opens in Affinity as a blank, black screen. It's this way with all the DNG files I, trying to open. Any help would be appreciated. It's my first time using Affinity so I'm hoping it's something simple. Thanks! (Attached photos)
Staff MEB Posted July 25, 2017 Staff Share Posted July 25, 2017 Hi Jrpeterson5, Welcome to Affinity Forums :) DJI Mavic Pro DNG's aren't currently supported on the iPad. Affinity Photo for iPad relies on iOS system level support - Apple (Core Image RAW) - to convert/process RAW's, so we depend on Apple to add support for DJI drone's cameras.. How can it be an Apple RAW problem if the files works with lightroom?
Staff MEB Posted July 25, 2017 Staff Share Posted July 25, 2017 Lightroom is using its own RAW engine, not the iOS built-in RAW engine as us. If you open your DNG on Affinity Photo (Mac) where we use our own engine too - Serif Labs RAW engine - the files open correctly as well because we do support them. kimaldis
I wish vendors would get their acts in gear over RAW formats. DNG is supposed to be a standard, guys. What's the point in file formats that aren't portable between applications. If the format isn't supported, you should generate an error. Instead of leaving your user scratching his head, wondering what's going on. Awesome app but this really sucks. If I want to shoot RAW using my iphone or iPad and edit the result in Affinity, what are my options?
kimaldis
One last thing: you say, "Lightroom is using its own RAW engine, not the iOS built-in RAW engine as us". I've exported an image from Lightroom to the camera roll as a DNG (Export original). I've verified in Photos on a Mac that the image format is RAW (dng). Photos on the Mac (Sierra) shows as a black image but in the Photos app on an iPad (iOS 11) the image is correct and I can edit it. Which suggests the iOS RAW engine now groks it. Do you think? .
