JesperA
Hi When i do layer masks in Photoshop, i usually have pen pressure control flow. I have tried to confiure Affinity to do the same, but No matter what I do, pressure always controls brush size. What am I doing wrong? Thanks
Staff Lee D Posted July 21, 2017 Staff Share Posted July 21, 2017 Hi JesperA, Welcome to the forums. With the Paint brush tool selected click on the More option on the Context toolbar at the bottom of the screen. Now select Dynamics, under the Flow tap the dropdown and select Pressure. If you want to change any of the other settings you can otherwise click OK. JesperA and stokerg
JesperA
That’s exactly what I did, but it doesn’t work
A_B_C
Indeed. You will have to set the flow slider to a different value than 0%, if you want to see any effect. JesperA
JesperA
Thanks I had tried it at 100%, but I edited it in the brushes studio. When I did that, it didn’t update the brush, unles I select another brush, and the new brush once again. It works now... sort of... I can’t go from a very faint stroke, to 100% color. I can only get a faint brush stroke, when the flow on the bottom is set a 1%, but if I do that, the stoke doesn’t even get to 5% coverage when i press hard with the pencil. Is that a limitation with Affinity? in Photoshop with my Intous, I can go from invisible to 100%. Even with a very very ligt touch in Affinity, I get color on the canvas, and the minimum seems to be what the current flow is set at, and the maximum I estimate is about 40% higher than the current flow Am I doing somerhing wrong, or is it a limitation on pressure levels or the app? JesperA
When I measure with the eyedropper and grey sliders color picker, the difference between lightest and darkest is only 29% I should be able to go from 0-100% - right?
JesperA
In Notes and Procreate, i can do it just fine.

Hi Jesper, I suspect that this partly depends on the selected pressure curve. When you try some of the DAUB Brushes, you will see that the dynamics are much better. But I do agree, the pressure management seems to have some issues at the moment. The beta does not seem to have improved the situation … https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/42921-pressure-sensitivity-issues-163-and-4/ I hope the devs will overhaul the pressure management machinery … Alex
Butler To Cats
Seems possible to get a better range, although I suspect I'm a little heavy-handed on the Pencil: "Accumulation only" is better for a single stroke, but leads to more of a "marker" like effect for later overlaid strokes. Warning: Large hard edged strokes will show the individual component circles from which the brush is composed. JesperA
JesperA
Thanks That’s better... not perfect, but a lot better...
