Is there no easy way to access your iPad Photo files in the desktop version of the app? I see all my recent files when I launch the iOS app, but don't see a way to access them on the Mac without exporting to a specific iCloud/Dropbox location from iOS first. Staff DWright Posted July 13, 2017 Staff Share Posted July 13, 2017 The iCloud service is Apples recommend method of sharing files between Mac's and iPads as this offers synchronisation between the devices, you can connect your iPad directly to your Mac and then use the File transfer option within iTunes to synchronise files between the devices. I have literally never plugged my iPad into my laptop, and I'm not about to start now. Would it not at least be possible to specify that the iOS version stores files on something like Dropbox, so the files are automatically synched to a shared location? You have to "export" them to an iCloud folder (or any other third party cloud service) using the Save A Copy command from the Document menu (on top) and then access tehm through the corresponding cloud folder on your desktop. Picnicmetoo Posted July 13, 2017 Share Posted July 13, 2017 I've tried using Air Drop and find that's reasonable if flattened. I have used Icloud Drive too and that's easy also (but no adjustment layers saved in psd). I would like to have access to my Ipad Affinity on my Macbook--plan to save on external drives--transitioning from Adobe CC (Lightroom and Photoshop) and still trying to establish a workflow (and deciding on a DAM perhaps). I have a 32Gb iPad but want to use this tool for photo editing. My only concern is if I will be able to export a RAW file with the history of edits applied from my iPad to a cloud service other than iCloud. Staff MEB Posted July 14, 2017 Staff Share Posted July 14, 2017 Hi micnik, Welcome to Affinity Forums :) Affinity Photo doesn't support side car files (.XMP) nor DNG's with embedded xmp metadata. This means you can't keep adjustments you have made to the RAW in Develop Persona editable as other DAM softwares like Lightroom (Affinity Photo is a RAW converter/developer and photo editing app not a DAM software). Currently the only way to keep all you edits is saving the file/project as an .afphoto file (our native format). You can do this going to menu document on top the the interface and selecting Save a Copy, to save a copy of the file as an afphoto file to iCloud or other cloud service you might be using as long as it's fully integrated with IOS. To change to another cloud service other than iCloud, tap Locations (on the top left of the interface) in the next screen (after the Save a Copy screen) and select or enable the service you are using. Going through iCloud, directly exporting from Photo on iPad. Even when the layers are visible in Photo, they don't show up in PS. Wondering if too many layers created this problem. What format are you exporting in? If you export as PSD or a TIFF the layers should be there, but not if you export as JPG or PNG. I've found that if layers are not visible in Photo, they don't show up at all in Photoshop. But I had a case where layers were made visible in Photo and did not appear at all in PS. Ok on reading your request again, whilst you can access an iCloud folder structure containing Affinity files and transfer between the two devices you must ensure you don’t have the file open on your desktop to be able to modify that file on your iPad, and conversely you cannot have the file open in the iPad on the home screen or edit screen and modify it on your desktop.
