Pre-press – GCR, UCR & Dot Gain feature

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I would like to see Grey Component Replacement, Under-Colour Removal and Dot Gain be added to Affinity Photo. Important for controlling the K (black) plate in CMYK printing.

Apologies in advance if this is already covered – I posted in the forums but got no reply (as below).

In Affinity Photo, how do I manipulate Gray Component Replacement (GCR), Under Colour Removal (UCR) and dot gain settings? In Photoshop, it is accessed via the ‘Color Settings’ dialog box, go to the ‘Working Spaces’  part of the dialog box, click the drop-down menu for CMYK and select Custom CMYK.

Vital for controlling the important black plate (channel) on press.

Hi Paul, I think you got no answer because GCR/UCR custom adjustments are things that only True Prepress Professionals need to bake. Normal users tend to be satisfied with canned profile seps. Maybe developers will add custom if prepress pros voice this need loud enough here.

Yes, I’d really like to know about this too. Or at least see it added to the program soon. It makes all the difference when preparing files for print, and it would be nice not to have to run to my desktop just for that feature.

Profile with Dot Gain is necessary since printing companies specify certain dot gain for grayscale file to be received.
It's usually 15%/20%/30%
