Kickilepuf
Hello there, This has been a pain on affinity for mac since it launched and there's apparently no real easy way to do this: How do I only flip a selection or a layer? I never managed to do that on the mac and now it's apparently even harder on the iPad? I'd be happy to hear suggestions. This whole canvas flipping is a joke to be honest. Thanks. Staff MEB Posted July 7, 2017 Staff Share Posted July 7, 2017 Hi Kickilepuf, Welcome to Affinity Forums :) To flip a layer/object on the Mac: - select the layer/object you want to flip, go to menu Arrange ▸ Flip Horizontal/Vertical or right-click the object/layer on canvas then select Transform ▸ Flip Horizontal/Vertical. To flip a layer/object on the iPad: - select the layer/object you want to flip, go to Transform Studio, then tap the Flip Horizontal or Vertical buttons in the Flip and Rotate section. snukalot
When on iPad I follow the instructions posted above after having made a *selection*, it horizontally flips the entire layer. I grant it isn’t an “object,” but a selection within the layer made with the lasso tool. I realize I can duplicate the layer, invert the selection, then delete the rest of the layer before flipping the part I want to keep and flip. But is there a shortcut? Can I JUST flip the selection while leaving the unselected area unflipped?
DM1
If in Photo and wanting to flip a selection, make sure the layer is a pixel layer, not an image layer. If image, you will need to rasterise the layer (using layer studio menu). Make selection and switch to Move tool. Grab top handle on Selection box and rotate 180 degrees. Or use Rotation Control in Transform studio. Yes the Flip appears to only work at Layer level whether by design or a bug, who knows. Quote M1 IPad Air 10.9/256GB lpadOS 17.1.1 Apple Pencil (2nd gen). — Miriam
I’m having the same problem. I want to be able to transform a selection. But I have been able to cut & paste my selection, which creates a new layer with the selection. Then the tools in the Transform menu work for me.
