Issue after applying Refine Selection

Recommended Posts

I use AF on my PC running Windows 10 professional.
I want to eliminate the background behind a womans head.

I used the 'Selection Brush' tool to get a rough mask on her hair.

Then I hit 'Refine' in the top bar. I lined out the fine hair with the brush and let AF do the calculation.

I switched to preview mode 'Transparent' and the quality was acceptable.

But if I cklick 'Apply' to create the final refined mask then the result is no longer acceptable.  :(.

The area around thin hair gets a small greyish halo / border.

But this halo / border was not present in the 'Refine Selection' preview.

I created a video which makes it visible what I mean:

So why after applying I get this ugly mask and not the clean one I got inside the Refine preview?

How to improve this mask?

Hi Mr.Burns,

I've spoken to development and they've told me that this is by design. They said that the transparent option you are using shows the result you get when you change the output to 'New Layer', creating a mask is completely different.  Doing this will allow you cutout to results you expected.
