Daneccleston86
Afternoon everyone, I have just bought Affinity Photo (love it so far) but just need some guidance on such a simple thing, I am trying to quickly remove backgrounds from photos to create pngs so i can make it look like my nephew is being chased by a T Rex... I can select the area okay using the magic wand / smart tools but how do I then delete the area that is selected?!?! I have tried changing the mode to Subtract but on selection it does nothing at all... Any help would be great Cheers Dan
Staff MEB Posted July 5, 2017 Staff Share Posted July 5, 2017 Hi Dan, Welcome to Affinity Forums :) Assuming that you have selected the background (not the person/subject you want to keep), press the delete key on your keyboard. If the layer you are working with is identified as an Image layer (check the label between parenthesis after the Layer's name in the layers panel) you have to right-click on it and select Rasterise from the context menu first otherwise the whole layer will be deleted instead of just the selection. Alternatively invert the selection (menu Select ▸ Invert Pixel Selection) to select the person/subject you want to keep then press the Mask Layer button (the circle inside a sqaure) on the bottom of the Layers panel to create a mask from that selection (hiding the background instead of deleting it).
