Pixelation (image downsampling?) during various actions

Recommended Posts

As I am moving through the Interactive Introduction, i am noticing that moving the image around results in pixelation (or downsampling) of the image. I then noticed the same thing happens when painting with color overlay (the iris color change).

Is this something i can stop, so i am working with the image in full resolution at all times? Any painting actions will be rather difficult for me if the image is downsampled while I'm working on things. I've not seen this happen in any of the other image editing/painting apps i have, so I'm presuming it's not a requirement of the iPad or iOS architecture. In fact, the video demonstration doesn't show this happening either.

Hi dysamoria,

Can you please let me know which iPad you are using and the build version of Photo that you are running as I have been unable to replicate the pixelation that you are encountering using an iPad Pro running the latest build.

I also have this issue, I'm on iOS 10.3 iPad Pro 9.7" 32GB. Any small work I have to do on a PC, when resizing images or art work for like Twitch emotes (112 x 112) it just becomes pixelated & unusable in AP (ver. 1.6.3) on iOS. I also have issues with painting small (low resolution), it just looks all pixelated & unusable, I love the app but I do have to do a lot of small (low resolution) work too. Or when I'm doing hi-res stuff & once I get to like 20 layers it just stops responding or crashes (most likely due to iPad only having 2GB's of RAM I would guess), other than that it's a great app & I hope the development will continue & I will be able to work completely from my iPad one day

Hi pualwright

when you took the screen shot where your fingers still on the screen as we can replicate the view you are seeing but as soon as we remove our fingers the display re-renders and the pixels disappear.

Hi ill_graphics

Is it possible for you to send me a sample .afphoto file so I can check if I get the same issue on different iPads

DWright,

I  can't test it at the moment as I'm waiting for my new iPad, but both my hands would be pressing the 2 buttons to take the screenshot, so I don't think my fingers were on the display. I'll check again later. I usually work very fast when spot retouching like this, not sure if that would make a difference.

Update: having exactly the same problem on my new iPad (256gb 10.5 iPad Pro). No fingers on the screen - I'm using an Apple Pencil anyway - and working fairly fast.

Quickly double tapping with the pencil makes this happen almost every time. Also if I try and do it when all the toolbars are cleared from the screen it randomly changes into a paintbrush at the same time as making the tool bars reappear. As well as always using the Apple Pencil I have a glass screen protector attached.  I wonder if the pencil is slipping and making millisecond double taps?
