Hobo Jolly
OK, I'm about as new as one can get to Affinity, as in hours. I'm pretty savvy with the computer; however, I'd like to know what the difference is between Photo and Design. I purchased Affinity Photo instead of paying the monthly subscription for Adobe Lightroom. So far, I really like what I've been able to do and I'm sure there is much more for me to discover. So any help with the two programs would be greatly appreciated.
toltec
Designer is a vector Illustration program, like Adobe Illustrator, so is designed more for illustrations and page layout. Photo is like Photoshop, a pixel editor. Trouble is, both programs blur the edges. Designer has pixel editing capabilities and you can draw basic stuff and add text in Photo. It all depends on what you want to do. If you draw complex drawings and DTP type page layouts, you need Designer. Why not download a free trial and try Designer? Quote Windows PCs. Photo and Designer, latest non-beta versions.
DavidMac
If you have come from Lightroom then AP is probably what you need. I have both and swap to AD when I need features (such as text on a path) which don't exist in AP. You can swap live between the two apps and each can also open each others file formats. They are wonderfully interchangeable.
