(Not a bug) File size too big

Not necessarily a bug, but pretty strange.

 

I edited a photo on Photo for iPad, and the file size is 25.4M, which is really abnormal for .afphoto files. So I edited the same photo on Mac, added the same adjustment layers to it, the file size is just 4.3M. (Original Photo 4M)

 

I'm not sure if you're aware this, but I kinda curious about the cause.

I have noticed this too in Photo for Windows! Sometimes two identical files would have drastically different sizes. A real world example would be a job I completed today in Photo. At some point in my work I saved two identical files and one of them was 11 MB and the other one 50 MB. I'm curious as to why this happens. I didn't save the files with history preserved so that's not the issue. I would be happy to know what causes this.

If you have save history enabled or have several snapshots in the document will increase the file size when saved.

I never save my files with history and snapshots. I am willing to send the 2 afphoto files to the Affinity staff to check them and explain why one of them is 5 times bigger when it's basically the same file.

Where is the settings for save file with/without history or snapshots?

Saving a document with / without history is an option under 'File'.  I don't think there's a similar option for snapshots, but then I've never used them in anger.

In the Mac or Windows version of Photo you can use the Snapshot panel to display all the snapshots in the document and you can delete the ones you do not want.

 

The Snapshot panel is available from the Photo and Develop Personas; for the former, it can be switched on via View>Studio; for the latter, it can be viewed by clicking 'Snapshot' at the top right of your workspace
