I use design and photo software as a hobby.  I am purchasing a new iMac.  I am happy with the Designer demo and will purchase it for my new iMac.  I will likely purchase Affinity Photo as well as I have no use for a subscription.  I have one question before I purchase my computer.

Will Affinity Designer and Affinity Photo benefit from a hyper-threading processor?

Affinity Designer/Photo/Publisher benefit heavily from having more cores available - whether they're physical or hardware-imlpemented virtual. If I was going to buy a new iMac I'd personally choose my upgrades in the following order: processor, then memory, then storage, then graphics... but that's just me. I know that we bought the Mid-2011 iMacs when they came out and paid extra to get the i7 processors that felt extravagant at the time, but they're now over 3.5 years old and are still stunningly quick and a joy to use - we have a few i5 versions too and they are showing their age a little in comparison (but still very good, to be perfectly honest!)

Hope that helps a little - and looking forward to seeing your work when you get settled in! :)

Matt, thanks for your input.

I have read that, even with a hyper-threading processor, not all software is designed to use HT cores.  Just wanted to be sure that Affinity can use the HT cores.  I didn't want to waste money that could go to other upgrades.

Thanks again,

Tegan
