I've been doing fine art printing through Photoshop for almost 20 years, currently on the Epson 11880. Before I consider switching over from Photoshop, I need to make sure there is a set workflow in place, not just a work around...

Are there support videos or tutorials showing the printer workflow for the Epson, in particular the 11880?

Thanks,  Alan

Hi Alan,

We do not have any videos showing the printer workflow with the Affinity apps but the printing will be the same as it is with Photoshop, you can use this link to get a 10 day trial of Affinity Photo so you can compare the printing from both of the apps.

Regards,

Darren

Hi alice009,

This error code indicates that there is a internal hardware error on the printer, if the printer is still within warranty I recommend contacting Epson to have the printer checked and repaired.

Hello. I have an old Epsom 1290 A3 and using Photoshop I can choose the correct stock for my print. This does not offer me the option in Affinity Photo. Can you please tell me why not? Also, why won't Apple Preview recognise the affinity Photo file format? This makes things very difficult for me as a desktop publisher.

The answer to this is a little complicated, but I hope this simplified version helps:

In the Mac OS, by default most printer options are provided by the printer driver installed on the system. The available option vary enormously, even among printers from the same manufacturer, so the first thing to do is make sure the driver for your printer is a current one supported by whatever version of the Mac OS you are running. Unfortunately, a lot of printer makers stop updating their drivers for older (& sometime not-so-old) printers, so the only available ones may not fully (or sometimes not even partially) be compatible with more recent Mac OS versions.

Even when every option is supported, finding where to set them in the print dialog can be difficult because different printer makers handle this differently, so it is best to check the owner's manual for info about that.

From what I can tell from older versions of Photoshop (so I am not sure if is still true) Adobe includes its own interface to the printer that in part replaces the Mac OS one, so in Affinity you may have to click "Show Details" & search among the various drop down menus to find what you need. Again, your printer's owner's manual should provide help with that.

The Affinity file format is unconventional & proprietary so only Affinity apps can open documents in that format. However, installing an Affinity app on a Mac also installs a Quick Look generator for the format, so you can browse through previews of them in Finder (if you have set the Finder window to show Previews) & tap the spacebar to 'quick look' any Affinity format file at a larger size. This also works in Open or Place dialogs, & you can use the cursor keyboard keys to step through the Quick Look previews without having to open & close each one individually.

Using Quick Look can be considerably faster than launching Preview just to preview an Affinity format file (or any other graphics file format that has a QL generator) & does not require the overhead of launching another app, so I suggest you give it a try & see if it makes things easier for you.

Hi @Albert Raes and welcome to the forums...

A Few Initial Questions

  1. Is your PC screen properly Colour Calibrated?
  2. Which colour model are you using to edit your photo's, sRGB, Adobe RGB, other?
  3. Which printer are you printing too?
  4. Which paper stock are you printing on?
  5. Are you allowing the PC or the Printer to do the colour matching?

Are you able to upload a sample image where you're experiencing the problem?

1. Yes, a BenQ LCD BL2711U, display settings is attached in Word document.

2. The color setting of AP V2 after installation.

Just adjusted the color settings, only the top 2 lines to Adobe RGB.

Also attached in Word document.

3. My printer: Epson XP-8500 Expression Photo with Adobe RGB

4. The left photo with blue jersey is HP Advanced Photo Paper 10 x 15 cm.
The right photo with green sweater is Epson Premium Glossy photo paper 13 x 18 cm

5. On question 5, I don't know.
Don't think so, but not sure.
Where could I find that, I'm not much of a computer specialist, more of a hobbyist.

And is this necessary for better photos.
