I was very surprised to see that there seemed to be no awareness in the app of the fact that I had a Pencil paired. Check out GoodNotes for a very different kind of app that has very good smart stylus awareness.

+1 very easy to use and  useful

Astropad bring the desktop version in an iPad :)

I'm curious... Why would anybody want to use such a thing vs. using their desktop with a calibrated monitor and a Wacom or Wacom-esque tablet? Isn't the latency an issue at the very least?

there  is a misunderstanding, IPad and laptop are not the best for professional works, they are a good gear for the work on the go. Astropad is not a a software for extend the desktop ( like duet).

I can't bring my Cintiq on the go or to my clients but the PRO12 is always in my bag. I can't compare the macbook screen ( or an iPad screen) with my calibrated spectraview.

So, in order to avoid confusion, without a calibrated monitor is very hard to make a professional job. The iPad is just a further help for the work but the color correction needs a serious hardware.

Maybe one is just editing photos for fun and already has an iPad and don't want to invest in an expensive Wacom tablet for doing something they aren't getting paid to do?

Such a user might be willing to pay the one-time fee for the standard edition of Astropad, but they're unlikely to want to pay the annual cost of nearly three times as much for Astropad Studio.
