Hokusai
If this is already a feature, then if someone could point me in the right direction I would appreciate it, if not I would like to request a way to merge paths. I don't know if this would be considered a boolean operation or not but in Affinity as it is, I have to have two shapes selected to use the boolean operations. I would like to be able to merge shapes that I draw using the winding fill mode so that the overlaps are combined into one shape (does that make sense). In Illustrator, there are Pathfinders and you have the option to "merge" paths and it will clean up and combine any overlapped areas even if it is only one shape. pxlbltz
Hokusai
No one has posted, so I'm guessing that there currently isn't a way to merge a single shape that overlaps?
Staff MattP Posted January 22, 2015 Staff Share Posted January 22, 2015 Hi Hokusai, I'm a little confused still - could you just show me a quick example/screenshot/mockup of what you would like to happen? :) Thanks! Matt
Staff MEB Posted January 22, 2015 Staff Share Posted January 22, 2015 Hi Hokusai, No, currently there's no way to merge shapes in Affinity. Although i can see how usefull this can be, this is the kind of feature i believe should come at a later stage. There's still some issues to fix with boolean operations and moving forward with features that probably rely on part of their code will not make things any easier. @Matt this is basically the ability to "add" two shapes (or a shape that overlaps itself) into a clean single shape automatically without performing any boolean operation. It's a destructive drawing mode and basically works like pixels in a pixel layer. Example: if you draw a triangle that overlaps a rectangle and then move it away, it cuts the rectangle as if it were painted with pixels. The opposite works the same. If you move a shape over another they become one sigle entity (one shape). It's similar to what Adobe Flash does when you use Merge Drawing mode. Hokusai
MattP, Here is an example. MEB is correct, it is destructive but there are times when it is very useful. MEB, sorry I have no idea when is the best time to add it to program but I agree, having boolean operations working perfectly (or as best as possible) is more important. Thanks for better explaining my request! Thanks Hokusai MergeSample.afdesign MattP
ronnyb
Like an automatic overlap-add mode, but within the same shape. So it simplifies the geometry... nice!
