Affinity Designer Customer Beta (1.0.21861)

Recommended Posts

Hi there...

Can you replicate the following, please?

* Create a new document

* Draw something

* Press Command-W to close it

* A dialog box appears asking to save the modified document.

* Hit Save

* The Save As dialog appears, asking for the name and location....

* But... The document closes before you can save it. Even though the dialog is waiting for an action.

I'm using the latest Beta (1.0.21861)

The MAS version works as expected.

Thanks!!

P.S. Great program... You guys are awesome!!

I'm not able to replicate this, neither in Mavericks nor in Yosemite. Can you please reset the beta - ctrl+click the app icon, Select All and then press the Clear button - and also restart the system to rule out some possible caching problems and start from a clean state please? Note that resetting the beta will remove any customizations you may have made to the program.

Thank you for your reply...

I'm trying to follow your directions, please elaborate on the procedure?

Control-Click to the App icon in the Dock Bar? Or in the Applications Folder?

In none of those places, I see an option to 'Select All' or a 'Clear Button'.

Thanks!!

Probably there is something wrong with my account..., In a new user account the Preview is working great!!

Thanks for your help.

Hey Guys,

same here as bandit69. I also switched back to english. But I prefer an language option in the app prefs for easy switching -> good to show mates and friends which won't use an english software  :)

Hi Markus, just to let you know, I've added a language option in the Preferences to switch between installed languages. It'll be available in the next beta build :).

I have the latest customer beta install (1.021861) on my iMac 5k and my Macbook Pro with Retina. Files created or saved in this version continue to have icon previews and Quick Look previews on my Macbook but the icon previews and Quick Look previews have disappeared on my iMac. Files saved in the MAS version on my iMac still show the previews just fine as do other files types. I'm running the latest OS X 10.10.2 Preview build on both machines. Things I've tried with NO success:

1. Created a new user account on my iMac and saved a new Affinity Designer document

2. Deleted the associated Quick Look cache and preference files from my Library folder

3. Restarted Quick Look and Finder from Terminal.app

4. Ran Repair Permissions from Disk Utility

5. Rebooted my iMac

I can't seem to figure out any way to get the previews to show.

celliott80, I have exactly the same problem as you have.

And I've done the same trying to fix it... But without any luck!

I'll keep looking for a solution and I'll keep you post it.

I'd like to post a reminder for my pet feature request: pixel/unit snapping. This is absolutely necessary for UI design. Currently it will snap to 0.5 units, which is the top problem. However a second problem is that unit snapping seems to break guide snapping. Both are central to screen design, and I really can't fully transition to Affinity until this is rock solid :(

I like snapping to 0,5 units, but sometimes 1 Pixel would be better, so please just divide the "Pixels" setting into "Half Pixel" and "Full Pixel". I cannot confirm that Pixel snapping breaks the guid snapping even if the guides are not aligned to pixels. Well, the screen tolerance seems to have no effect when unit snapping is active.

@n8o, @ Tekl,

Unit snapping tend to me more aggressive than the rest of the sanpping options because most of the time you will be closer to the next pixel value (when it's set to pixels) than to any other object or guide. This will be tuned to be less intrusive.

Half-pixel/full-pixel snapping was already discussed in several threads. It will be improved to include both options.

I just noticed that AD allows FX settings to be scaled with object!!!! OMG that is so amazing!!! I've often cursed Adobe for not having this switch in their UI... so many times I'll prototype something at low rez, then have to produce high rez after approval... and then I have to redo everything because Adobe can't multiply the values for me using my $2500 mac's CPU...

+1 more in a long list for AD!!!

Purpose: Improvements, Features, Fixes

Status: Beta

Requirements: Purchased Affinity Designer

Mac App Store: Not submitted

Download: https://s3.amazonaws...stomer Beta.dmg

NOTE: Following yesterday's release of build 1.0.21844 that this thread originally referred to, we have updated the beta build in order to fix a problem when entering the raster brush tool and also to fix an issue seen with the continuous export function. Other than that there have been no further changes. The build number has now been changed to 1.0.21861

To use this beta, simply download the file from the link given above and double-click on the file to open the installer. Follow the instructions to install the beta version. The beta sits alongside the Mac App Store version and will not interfere with it.

Documents made in this version will not be openable in older versions of Affinity Designer. This change was necessary in order to ensure a consistent baseline for our file format for the upcoming Affinity Photo Beta. When we update the Mac App Store version it will upgrade to this new archive version number too so will not be an issue in the future.

Improvements, Features, Fixes
- German and French translations - first phase. Spanish will be arriving shortly.
- Greatly improved performance of pixel brushes.
- Added Ctrl+Option pixel brush tool drag modifier to quickly adjust hardness and brush size.
- UI font size can be increased in Preferences -> User Interface.
- The Beta version can now be used during the Trial period. If no purchased version is found, a Trial period will automatically start.
- Hardware-accelerated colour profile transforms.
- Rectangles are now Rounded Rectangles - they just have their radii set to zero. An Ellipse is now also a Pie and a Donut shape, simply by dragging the handles.
- PSD import and export improvements.
- EPS export fixes.
- SVG export fix for different line joins and caps causing malformed SVGs.
- SVG import of unfilled objects.
- PDF import improvements and fix for import of very old Illustrator documents causing crashes.
- Fix for History panel crash when choosing the first item.
- Miscellaneous fixes for studio panel resizing logic.
- Importing documents from non-native formats now attempts to set a likely DPI for the document, based on the content found in it.
- Better logic when resizing documents.
- Fix for justified text drawing incorrectly.
- Font UI changes - the font should be shown in the language the user’s system is set to and font traits are now localised.
- Fixes for stroke alignment property not always maintaining itself in the UI.
- Importing brushes will now import all brushes, not just those for the current Persona.
- Updated PDF import options panel and fix for options panel causing deadlocks.
- Fix for Layers panel disabling when opening a document that is already opened via drag-drop.
- Fix for Layers panel occasionally to allowing items to be renamed.
- Performance improvements for objects with Layer Effects on Retina machines.
- Fix for object nudging occasionally nudging a seemingly random amount the first time.
- Default black/white colours in Swatches panel are now correct for the current document’s colour format.
- Numerous other fixes and improvements.

So is this new release the newest version or is the Affinity 1.2.1 the newer one? I'm trying to figure out the difference and should I up grade my program ... or down grade in this case??
