I am a new user of Design and when i exported a job in pdf format and then opened it in Preview, the pages came out in a different order.

Can anyone help with please?

I attempted a number of different fixes and also went to Help, but there was nothing available on this particular problem.

Would appreciate some feedback.

Thank you for your responses. I appreciate your interest and help.

I have 7 artboards (A3 Landscape) in this particular document, a Company Profile, and this is the sequence the artboards are appearing when exported in pdf and then opened in Preview...1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 6, 3

I do realize the pages can be reorganized in Preview by dragging the thumbnails into the correct order, but unfortunately this doesn't permanently change the order in the original stored pdf file, so if I email the pdf file to a client for proofing, it is left up to client to re-arrange the order, which of course in not a desirable outcome.

Then of course, once completed, the file will have to be sent off to the printer in pdf format for printing and it will obviously need to have all of the pages in the correct order at this time.

Not sure where I go from here and would appreciate knowing if anyone else has had this same problem. This is the first job I have done with the program and also the first problem I have encountered. Up to now, I have been delighted with it and found it meets all of my needs.

Hi Bloorie

Welcome to the forum,

Could you provide the file so I can test this?

Thank you. This document is a Company Profile for a new startup and it contains a great deal of proprietary information which unfortunately I am not at liberty to disclose at this point in time. Also it is a large, so I am not sure how I could get it to you other than in pdf format. Far too large to email. If I can get clearance to send it to you, maybe I could send you a cloud or Dropbox link??

Hi Bloorie,

Welcome to Affinity Forums :)

The order of the exported PDF pages is the same as the artboards in the Layers panel but from bottom to top. So the bottom layer/artboard in Affinity Designer corresponds to the first PDF page and so on.

Thanks for you suggestion. I have just added a new post showing the order the artboards appear in Preview. Unfortunately, they are not neatly in revere order as you suggested.

Problem solved and thanks for all of your comments and suggestions.

When I went to the layers panel, I found the artboards were in the same order (incorrect order) that they were appearing in Preview. I then re-arranged the order in the layers panel so they were all in the correct sequence and that fixed the problem.

I still don't understand how and why they were out of order in the layers panel though. They were appearing on the screen (pasteboard) in the correct order and were created in the correct sequence when the job was first setup, so it is still a bit of mystery to me. How did they came to be out of order in the layers panel? Answer! I don't know!!

Now I know about the problem, I can watch out for it in future and ensure it doesn't happen again...or if does, discover why?
