Blemish removal

Recommended Posts

I am a total beginner having trouble with blemish removal. I keep getting the message I need to hold to have it work. I have tried holding down in various places, doesn't work. With the iPad Pro app, what different steps do I need to apply to get it to work? Thanks.

Hi Valerier23,

Welcome to Affinity Forums :)

Check the Layers Studio: right above the layer's name (in small letters) does it say Image or Pixel? If it says Image it means you are working with an image layer type. This is considered an object layer - it preserves all original image data so you can scale it, rotate and apply other transforms without ever losing quality, however you are not able to change its content - the pixels -. To be able to edit the pixels you must convert it to a Pixel layer type where you can apply most tolls that affects the pixels directly. To convert an Image layer type to a Pixel layer type, select it in the Layers Studio then tap the ellipsis icon (the three dots) on the top of the interface and select Rasterise ▸ Rasterise. Now you can use the Blemish Removal Tool taping over the target area on canvas, or tapping and holding while you move your finger to the area you want to use as the source.

Trouble is though, by rasterising you don't get the same effect from the blemish tool. The fact you can see the scourge with a line going to the blemish area, and being able to change the position and size is a great aspect of the tool. When I rasterise it just becomes a clone tool of sorts. Is there any way to work with the tool showing on the image?
