Affinity photo for iPad 4

Recommended Posts

Hello. I was very excited to see affinity photo has been released on iPad yesterday I went straight to the app store to take a look but then I saw it was not available for lower Ipad models. I just wanted to confirm that it will NOT run on my iPad 4. Its not mini, just a normal iPad 4.

If it doesn't work for my ipad will it be fixed in the future?

Thanks in advance

Hi MrSkills,

Welcome to Affinity Forums :)

No, it doesn't run on the iPad 4. Here's the supported iPads:  iPad Air 2, iPad 2017, iPad Pro 9.7-inch, iPad Pro 10.5-inch and the iPad Pro 12.9-inch.

It's unlikely that it will work with older iPad versions other than with the ones i listed above.

We don't run on these older iPads due to memory/screen-res/processor issues. As I understand it, we could run with Metal software emulation, but I think you would struggle to edit modern larger images.

Hi, is it possible to make a selection of a cut out image in a layer, so I can create another layer and flood fill etc its a really simple thing to do, just can't figure out how to do it on iPad version!

Thanks

Hi DarrenLm,

Welcome to Affinity Forums :)

Yes. You didn't specify exactly what you want to do but the following should be enough to get you going:

- create you selection as usual in the Selections Persona

- change to Photo Persona go to the ellipsis menu (the three dots on the top of the interface) and select Pasteboard ▸ Copy

go to the ellipsis menu (the three dots) and select Pasteboard ▸ Paste

You should now have the cutout separated in an new empty layer.

sort of... but I was hoping there was a quick way to make a selection of the object in the layer, like you normally do on Mac, command click, selects the object shape.

possible on ipad version?

Thanks

Do you mean you want to cut out an object from a layer?

If so, tap the Selections Persona, use the Smart Brush Tool (first icon below the hand icon) to quickly create a rough selection, then press the last icon form the left toolbar in the same Persona (the Refine Selection Tool) to refine the selection/edges if necessary. Set the Output (look at the labels on bottom to identify the buttons) on the context toolbar to New layer or New layer with mask as you prefer (you must tap the button and scroll the popover to select the New layer or New layer with mask option) then press the checkmark button immediately on the right to Apply it. You should now have your selection as a new layer.

It sounds to me as though @DarrenLm wants to do the same on the iPad as you would do by Cmd-clicking a thumbnail in the Layers panel on a Mac. Is there an equivalent action in the Layers studio on the iPad if you don't have a keyboard?
