Dehaze not working on ARW raw, but does on JPG

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I have tried to remove the haze from an ARW raw file with Dehaze, but it has absolutely no effect. The opened a JPG of the same file and then it worked.

Can you please address this issue?

Thank you.

Hi ovisan,

Welcome to Affinity Forums :)

When you open a RAW file in Affinity Photo it opens by default in Develop Persona. This is where you convert/develop the RAW data into a processed image which you can further edit in Photo Persona using regular photo editing tools like filters, masks, channel etc. The Haze filter is only available in Photo Persona, that's why you can't access it while you are working in Develop Persona. You must convert/process the RAW image clicking on the blue Develop button in the context toolbar to move/switch to Photo Persona where you can apply the filter. It works correctly with the JPG because a JPG (or TIFF, PNG etc) are processed images and so open immediately/directly in Photo Persona. To lean more about Personas and their functions please check this video tutorial. For additional video tutorials check the Official Affinity Photo Video Tutorials thread.

To learn a bit more about the advantages (and differences in workflows) between using RAW vs JPG files, please do a search on Google or similar for "RAW vs JPG". There's plenty of articles/information about this subject.

Hi MEB,

I am well aware of personas, and in Photo persona this doesn't work. I tried today also with a tif file and that doesn't work either. I am more than happy to provide a short screen recording to show this.
