pjglad
Is Blackpoint and Brightness the same as Blacks and Whites in most other Raw processing programs? If not then what? FYI, I've read the Help, but...
jhoy
Hi pjglad In the develop persona there is a blackpoint adjustment available which does a similar effect to blacks, there is also another method, in the Photo person, under the layer, new adjustment layer, levels adjustment there is an option to adjust the black and white levels. This feature has been requested, I have put a link below to thread. https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/38435-whites-and-blacks-in-adjustment-layer/
pjglad
Thanks. One more question. How is Exposure different than Brightness?
Staff Lee D Posted May 18, 2017 Staff Share Posted May 18, 2017 Both are similar, Brightness will preserve the highlights and is usually used for adjusting midtones whereas adjusting the Exposure will blow them out.
Fixx
Both are similar, Brightness will preserve the highlights and is usually used for adjusting midtones whereas adjusting the Exposure will blow them out. Then Brightness adjusts gamma and Exposure adjust white point? GregS
GregS
I too am confused by the Brightness control - if it preserves the highlights, the word "brightness" is rather misleading, and I agree with Fixx that what the "Brightness" control really does is probably more akin to a gamma adjustment, and if that's what it does, it would be better to simply rename the Brightness control to Gamma. GregS
It appears that Affinity may simply be giving us similar controls to Adobe products, and I think this is the right thing to do: https://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/24039818 I'm only familiar with very old versions of Photoshop, so this Exposure vs Brightness issue is new to me.
