Paragraph & Character Panels - Affinity Photo on Windows 10

Recommended Posts

I cannot get the Paragraph or Character panels to appear. I assume there are supposed to be panels for those options?

With the text tool active, i see Character and Paragraph buttons, but when I click them, nothing happens.

If I click the Text menu - Show Character or Show Paragraph - nothing happens for either one.

Text/Show Typography does pop up a panel though.

From the View menu - Studio - Character and Paragraph are both checked, but they do not appear in any of the areas where the other panels are shown.

I'm just starting with Affinity Photo, so there could be something I'm missing, but everything else has worked as I expected - a refugee from Photoshop. :)

Version is 1.5.1.54

OS is Windows 10

Hi vwatson,

Welcome to the forums.

If they're enabled on the View menu they should appear in the default position, see the attached screenshot, unless moved. Try resetting the app by holding the CTRL key and then opening. Once the window appears, release the key and click Clear, then check by enabling them in View > Studio.

Is the app, full screen?, if so, try reducing the window size and see if you can locate the panels. As once you see them, they can be docked with the others. Try increasing your screen resolution if possible or lowering the DPI setting to 100%

My monitor resolution is 1920 x 1080, which is the recommended.

I maximize, minimize, resize Affinity Photo, still no char/paragraph panels.

Here's a brief screencast showing me clicking the buttons and menu options. I've tried it with selecting the text layer, text tool, highlighting text in the text object. I'm not sure what you have to do since I've never gotten them to appear.

Since you're trying stuff, how about systematically closing down the other panels starting at the top (histogram, etc). Once that block is gone, work your way down to the next block, etc. So one by one, you close the panel blocks down to see if the Chr & Para panels suddenly are visible. You can close each block using their top right-hand menus or uncheck them in the View > Studio menu. Worst case, once they're gone you can always turn them back on again, hopefully. :)

[This is just another way to try Lee D's suggestion about whether they are hidden due to resolution or screen size choices.]
