Importing PSD's into Affinity

Hey everyone.  Hoping someone can help me out.  I'm using Affinity Photo to import some PSD files I paid for from a stock site.  There are text layers, shape layers, etc.  When I open the files though, all the layers are pixel layers that are not editable in any way.  It's as if they're flattened.  I was under the impression that Affinity photo can open PSD's and work with them natively.  I'm not fully sure how a pixel layer works either so I could be missing something here.

 

All I want to do is edit the PSD's I bought.  It's basic mods I want to make, nothing fancy.  Anyone know how to convert the pixel layers to something editable (especially the text)?  Thanks!

Welcome to Affinity Forums :)

Affinity Designer/Photo does support PSD layers (text layers, vector layer, adjustments etc). However not all features are supported (PSD is a proprietary/poorly documented format). Currently we don't support PSD Smart Objects for example - they are imported as rasterised layers (flattened). Without seeing your file its difficult to tell you why some layers are being imported as pixel layers (rasterised), but if those are files were bought in a digital store it may eventually be because they contain PSD Smart Objects.

There's an option under 'Preferences > General' to 'Import PSD text as text rather than bitmap'. This option is deselected by default (so that even if you don't have the font installed the text will always look correct if you don't need to edit it). Please note that although the Affinity apps can import PSD text they cannot export it, so any text exported to PSD format will be rasterized.
