reward system for user support?

Recommended Posts

Hi folks,

it there any kind of reward system for your customers and product users who report bugs and do useful posts?

Every now and then, when I work on professional projects, for example in AD, I will be confronted by issues that stop being productive. Then I catch myself trying to reproduce the bug +  creating a screening of it + creating a post + uploading my files etc. ... so doing valuable stuff.

I know, each fixed bug and logged feature request will improve future version of AD, AP. So that would be reward enough.

In my case I have several tiny, small workflow improvements on my list, that would be great if they were fixed, but maybe never be considered of ... because of the huge amount of things on your lists ... I just asked myself if there could be some kind of reward system (points reporters could collect by their help/support of creating, depending on the quality etc.)? And if there is another fixing-day for "smaller" issues, requests - those have a bigger weight, something like that.

Just an idea of getting even more motivated to invest time and support you with high quality posts.

Cheers,

Stefan.

Stefan,

Thank you for your input and suggestion, and thank you particularly for the time that you and others give to improving the software. A points system is almost impossible to manage/measure on a forum so would be difficult until we have a more formal public facing bug reporting system, but that is being considered in the near future.

During quiet (public facing) times in the development cycle, like now, it feels less rewarding reporting the issues and making suggestions than it does during a beta phase where the things reported are often fixed very shortly afterwards. Nevertheless all reports are added to our database and prioritised by the project leads.

The public betas and interaction with the programmers is why many of the forum regulars are here, and I look forward to the next public beta of 1.6 and more regular beta releases, when the software tends to improve very quickly.

Based on my experiences in other forums that have a points/rewards system, I am not in favor of one here. The reason is this tends to promote competition among some users, which leads to disputes & bad feelings about who should get credit for posting first, whose post best explains the issue, etc.
