Havin trouble to open .ai file

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone !

My supplier send me .ai file about cars body but unfortunately, there is no way I cant open this file. I double checked with my supplier but she can open it with adobe without trouble so she since sent me a .pdf but I would like to fix this problem as it could happen again as .ai is kind of the norm.

I attached the file. Hope you guys could give me a hand on this one :)

Cheers !

Hi guillaumebeneze,

Welcome to Affinity Forums :)

The Ai file opens as an empty file in Designer because this file does not contain a PDF stream, that is, the file was not saved in Illustrator with Create PDF Compatible File checked. Since we can only access the PDF stream inside the file (the rest is private/proprietary) and it's not present in this case, there is nothing to show when you open the file. Use the EPS file instead (on the zip you provided) or a PDF version if you have access to it.

Hi Meb!

I am truly sorry, I completely forgot to go back on the forum to check answers.. (I was expecting to receive email if so)

Sorry about that...

I actually did exactly what you said. However, it seems not to work with every .eps file :(

eg: the file attached here

Any thought about it?

The little windows in French says:

"Assigned profile

Affinity Designer has assigned your active profile (sRGB IEC61966-2.1) to this document without profile."

Do you know if you'll have any news soon?

I am on a project for a client and he's waiting :s

Keep me update if it needs more than 2 more days at least I can let my client know.

Cheers
