Best way to un-embed a file?

Recommended Posts

What's the best way to un-embed a file in Affinity Designer?

Right now I'm clicking on the layer, going to edit the embedded file, selecting and copying all, and then exiting back out and pasting in a new layer.

I keep looking for an un-embed command or something but must be missing it.

doesnt work..... still embeded.

If you want to modify the embedded object, double-click on it. A new tab named "Embedded" opens, you can make the changes there. Once you have made the changes, close this tab to return to the document. The changes you have made will be taken into account.

The idea expressed earlier is that you doubld-click on the embedded object to open an editing tab for it, copy everything in that tab and close it, then paste it into the original document. Yes, the original is still embedded, but you can simply Hide it using the Layer panel, or Delete it using the Layer panel, and use the data that you copied/pasted.

Or if you have Publisher, you can use the Resource Manager to "Make Linked". That function is new since this thread started.

correction: Resource Manager is in all 3 desktop applications

I think that is also available in Designer and APhoto

You can just Rasterise the layer (but you will lose future access to the Layer structure, if any existed)

I deal 95% in vector as I do large print as well as needing editing ability.... Rasterize is not a good option for me.
