penwiper
I am not sure if this is just a problem only I am having, but I wanted to resize some exported JPEGS from Affinity Design. Unfortunately, when I opened the jpeg in Preview it wouldn't play nice and I got this error message: "The document “medallion.jpg” could not be saved." When I messed with exporting jpegs in Affinity, there was a lock beside the pixel count, so I also tried clicking that off to bring it down from 1300 px to 400 px but no joy. It still saved as 1300. So what am I doing wrong, and what should I be doing so I can save some of these images for other things? I should say also that I have my files set to US Web coating SWOP settings (mostly at random, I have no idea what it means)-- is that messing me up now? Is there a way to change it to whatever I SHOULD be using, such as perhaps CYMK?
Staff MEB Posted December 28, 2014 Staff Share Posted December 28, 2014 Hi penwiper That lock is for preserving the proportions of the image, meaning that if you change the width, the height will be adjusted accordingly. If you unlock it you can then change one of the dimensions without affecting the other. If you want to export an image smaller (or bigger) than the document size, keep the lock closed and change the width (or height) of the image. Affinity will calculate the other dimension to keep the image's proportions. There's a video tutorial about exporting documents from Affinity here. The colour profile (US Web coating SWOP) does have nothing to do with image dimensions. So no, its not messing anything here. I believe the problem may be with the dimensions/dpi of your original Affinity document. If you could post one of those images exported from Affinity that's giving you trouble with Preview it would help to check what's going on. penwiper
Ok, thanks, that definitly worked through Affinity now for resizing-- but I'm still having trouble resizing through Preview. This wouldn't be an issue for me, but I want to be sure if I send a file to someone else they won't have problems either in Preview. :-) Here's the image in JPEG format. Much appreciated! Staff MEB Posted December 28, 2014 Staff Share Posted December 28, 2014 The problem with this jpeg is that it's in CMYK format. Professsional graphic applications will be able to handle it, but Preview not being a prepress savvy application will have trouble saving it. To avoid this, make sure the Colour Format of your original Affinity Document is set to RGB (unless the file is being prepared for commercial printing).
