I would think U.S. are without tax and european prices are with tax.

That applies equally to the UK and other parts of Europe, of course, but at current exchange rates 49,99 € is less than £42.99 (or to put it another way, £48.99 is more than 56,99 €).

New Zealanders are being asked to pay 74.99 NZD, which at US$52 or 49 € is similar to the MAS prices for the US and the Eurozone. Australians are asked for 79.99 AUD, which is similar to the current UK price.

For the U.S., it is complicated. Sales taxes are levied by the states -- there is no federal sales tax. Each state sets its own sales tax rate(s) & determines what kind of purchases are subject to those taxes. Sales taxes are not included in the purchase price; they are added onto the bill as a separate item.

Some states do not collect any sales tax on internet purchases. Others do, usually only for companies with "a physical presence" in that state. But that can mean almost anything: a bricks & mortar store (like Apple has in all but a few U.S. states); a distribution warehouse for any physical products the company sells; a customer support phone center; a physical office where employees work in management, development, legal, marketing, or any other company related job; or anything else where a physical presence of any kind in that state that benefits the company can be established.

As you might imagine, this complicates record keeping, reporting, & submission of tax revenues considerably, because every state has its own requirements & procedures that must be followed. As with any other cost of doing business, this is passed on to the buyer as part of the purchase price. The only reason (that I know of) that U.S. purchase prices are not higher is this cost is amortized over all buyers & sales volumes in the U.S. typically are quite large, so the cost per buyer is lower than it would be for a country or region with significantly lower sales volumes.
