Wood texture in Affinity Photo not Design.

Recommended Posts

How would you go about making a wood texture to use as a texture in 3D software? I tried but not too sure how to go about it.

I tried some tuts I found on Google but sadly Photo does not have the photoshop filters or plugins I need to achieve it.

No fibers no pinch and swirl placement only in the center so knots are out. etc. Anyone with any ideas? Thanks.

Depends on the case I am using photos to make seamless texture and add rest of the material properties in Blender (I am making a lot of furniture renders). Here is simple tutorial how to make seamless texture in Photo:

Theres so many ways to create wood texture but last thing would be for me trying to generate it with 2D software. Waste of time and in the end it looks fake anyways when compared to good photo with nice normal map.

You can make quite an effective wood grain just by filling a layer with a brownish base colour, rasterizing it and adding some monochromatic Gaussian noise, and then applying motion blur to create the grain. Some distortion effects such as a slight ripple will make the grain look less even and therefore more natural, and 'twirl' distortion applied to elliptical selections should give something approaching a knot-like effect.

Just hand paint it!
