mischayabish
Hi Forum! Recently I bought Affinity Designer for my macbook (at the App store) and I really like working on some projects while I'm at the train or at my University. But I also work with a Windows desktop computer when I'm at home. Now I just saw, that there's an official version for Windows aswell. Is it possible to use the same purchase for Windows? Or do I have to purchase it seperatly...? Which would be a bummer.. Thank you already for the answer! Kind regards
Staff MEB Posted March 19, 2017 Staff Share Posted March 19, 2017 Hi mischayabish, Welcome to Affinity Forums :) Each platform requires it's own license so yes, you have to buy an additional license for use on a Windows computer. Sergey Mirontsev
I also have both Designer and Photo for Mac. And too difficult to decide to pay again. Maybe Serif a planning to make some discount for exists license owners?
Alfred
I also have both Designer and Photo for Mac. And too difficult to decide to pay again. Maybe Serif a planning to make some discount for exists license owners? Apple (quite rightly) doesn't share their customer data with other vendors. As long as Serif continues to sell the Mac versions only through the Mac App Store, they can't offer a discount on the Windows versions because they don't know who their Mac customers are. R C-R
Expanding a bit on what Alfred said, all apps bought through the Mac App Store ("MAS") include a cryptographically signed & encoded certificate file inside the app bundle (at path /Contents/_MASReceipt/receipt). This receipt file provides protection against software piracy & unknowingly installing & running malware masquerading as a legitimate application from a MAS developer. Among other things, this file includes an indirect reference to the Apple ID used when the app was purchased, which is part of why Apple does not share data related to this certificate or any other individual user sales information with MAS developers. Serif sells the Windows versions directly from its own Affinity Store, using product keys & Affinity Store account info to provide much the same protections as the MAS receipt does for the Mac versions. Thus, the company knows which users bought the Windows versions because it maintains its own store account info. But because the equivalent info for the MAS versions applies to all MAS apps, including those sold by other developers, it would be foolhardy for Apple to share it with them.
