How to select an element without selecting every pixel of it?

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am a long time AI user and I'm not very fond of how selecting an element in AD works.

In AD you have to  drag select every pixel first to select it. How do I make it like AI where I can just drag select some part of it and then it gets selected?

Any options how?

One

You can set this in the preferences: under “Tools” the third checkbox from the top (I don’t know what it is named in English right now).

Uhmm. one problem though when I use artboard then I select the artboard unintentionally with this settings turned on? Any workaround?

The option is called "Select object when intersects with selection marquee". When enabled, AD behaves as arciyuski prefers.

Unless the artboard itself was already selected or is empty, this should not happen.

Also, if you hold down the alt/option key before selecting anything, whatever is under the pointer when you first start dragging out the marquee will not be selected, which can be very useful for excluding objects when you use this preference.
