Freehand Selection Tool (Affinity Photo)

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm new to Affinity Photo. I've got the latest version 1.5.1 on Mac. I know version 1.5 updated the Freehand Selection tool (three selection modes: freehand, polygonal, magnetic) but I want to know if the old tool is still available. The previous tool is demonstrated in the video below:

I think the previous way it selects is still very useful and should be an option for this tool. Is it still available? Or did it go away completely?

Thanks!

The only difference between the old tool & new version's freehand mode is in how the marquee is shown while dragging it out: previously it was shown as a "marching ants" line & the segment between the starting point & the current position was shown as a straight line. In the new version, the line is solid, the starting point is marked with a small blue circle as a reference point, & the final segment is not shown until the mouse button is released, at which time the marquee reverts to the "marching ants" display.

But functionally, the old tool is identical to the new one's freehand mode, so there is no change in its usefulness.
