ChristAlix
Hello friends, Is there a way to see live the file size of the currently edited document (like Photoshop)? This information is very helpful, especially when working with many Filters and Layers. Perhaps you could somehow integrate the information into the lower right corner of the AP / AD program. It would also be useful to switch between the current document size and the memory usage by clicking on the information field. PS: This Info function I know from different CAD, Compositig and Video Editing programs "of the higher class". Greeting ChristAlix
ChristAlix
Hi friends, have posed same question in "Future Request" ChristAlix
R C-R
Please keep in mind that a new document has no file size until it is saved to disk, memory (RAM) usage can vary continuously over a considerable range due to the way Affinity uses & releases it, & even for previously saved documents in Affinity the file size on the next save may change substantially. This is because the native Affinity file format is optimized (among other things) for minimizing save times & for quickly zooming to different levels with minimal impact on system resources. Part of this involves including mipmaps (a new word for me!) in the files & discarding some stuff once the file reaches some threshold size. Basically, the Affinity apps are quite a bit different "under the hood" than Photoshop & similar products, so some of the stuff that makes sense for them does not for Affinity. ChristAlix
OK, I understand! But at least one could represent the memory utilization of the system (RAM total and just in use)? It will also be helpful! ChristAlix
R C-R
If you really mean total system memory use, on Macs you can use the Activity Monitor app for that, & I am sure there are similar utilities for Windows. But keep in mind that modern memory management systems are complex, so it is not as simple as total & in use. For example, Apple's help topic for Activity Monitor discusses the function of cached memory in OS X. It is part of the total memory used, but it is not currently in use & is available for use by other processes. Thus, it is not exactly "used" or "free" memory, but something in between. Because application processes rely in part on other processes to function (for example, text services provided by the OS), some of the memory used by an app may be shared with other processes. That memory is in use but not just by any one app. It is all very dynamic, intended to make the best use of as much of the installed RAM as possible by avoiding the need to reload data from disk unnecessarily.
