Text containers

Hi,

There is plenty empty space inside text container when it is selected with selection tool. It is very hard to work with if there is an overlaping text. It should tightly fit the text just as when it is converted to outlines as shown in an attachment.

Hmm … how about using the Frame Text Tool instead of the Artistic Text Tool in such an instance? You could reduce the frame size to the desired minimum …  :unsure:

In that case, what is the purpose of artistic text?

I don't think it is too complicated to fix this. It is just matter of free time.

Like in InDesign where you can select to "Fit frame to content"? +1

In InDesign you can just double click on a middle dot of the lower line of the text container.

The current text may not include any ascenders, descenders, swashes, etc, but the text container still needs to allow space for them.

It would be enough if they just do it same as for outlined text.

If by "outlined text" you mean text converted to curves/outlines, I don't see how that would work. A text container is a single object but text converted to curves is a group of objects, each one of which has a bounding box which is only just big enough to contain it.

We plan to do this for Artistic text in 1.6. It's a bit weird if the text begins or ends with blank lines, but it makes the text more artistic, more like a graphic.

We also plan to do this for Frame text in 1.6.
