Norbert78
Hi forum, I'm new to Affinity designer but I really start loving this tool. It's the first tool of all the design tools that I find worth to at least try to lear more about... I'm currently working on a very simple, first project: A business card. As part of a logo on this card, I'd like to play around with the dot on the "i" in the text of the company name. I'm not yet exactly sure, what I will end up doing with it (different color, rotating, leaving it out completely) but as a first step, I'm looking for a way to remove the dot from the "i". So far I have been considering to place an rectangle over it but I cannot find a way to make the rectangle have always the same color as the background (as I said: dumb newbie). But I also somehow think that covering it up may not be the best solution. Maybe, there is also a way to really erase it? Thanks for all your comments in advance Norbert
Staff MEB Posted February 12, 2017 Staff Share Posted February 12, 2017 Hi Norbert78, Welcome to Affinity Forums :) There's quite a few ways to do this. Here's some: 1. draw a small rectangle over the point of the i then go to the top of the Layers panel and change the Blend mode dropdown from Normal to Erase. This will hide everything below the rectangle, including other layers. to force it to be applied just to the text, drag the rectangle layer over the text layer in the Layers panel. The text remains editable and you can always disable or delete the rectangle layer to get the point back. 2. If you don't need to edit the text anymore (since it's part of a logo) you can convert the text objects to shapes, selecting the text and going to menu Layer ▸ Convert to Curves. Then go to the Layers panel, click on the arrow inside a circle on the left of the thumbnail to expand it, select the i, change to the Node Tool and drag a marquee around the point of the i. Press delete on you keyboard to get rid of the point definitely. Let me know if you still have trouble. Norbert78
Hi MEB, thanks for your quick reply! I went for the first solution and added a rectangle for which I changed the mode to Erase. Nice solution! Thanks a lot Norbert
PixelPest
If you´re confident with glyphs and the used font supports it a "small letter dotless i" will do it without loosing editability. Cheers P.
