Aligning text to a selection & beige instead of a white color bug

2. From your screenshot it looks like you only have one vector object selected (the text). The pixel selection (marching ants rectangle) is ignored by the alignment options, so the text will simply try to align to the page.


If you draw and select a rectangle and the text then try aligning them, I think you'll see that it works as expected.

For white that is beige, Aammppaa has given you the links that give the solution.

For the text, the vertical alignment inside its "box" depends on the font used. If you change it you will see that the alignment and the "box" itself are different, each font having different characteristics.
To align your text within the rectangle, you will have to manually adjust the height of the "baseline" of the text relative to its "box".
