How do I get rid of the blurred around the edges of a subject?

Recommended Posts

(Picture attached)

I selected the subject (which is a person), and blurred out the the background. However, when I blur out the background surrounding the subject, another surrounding blurred marks appears on edges of the subject outside of the selection, which I do not like.

I want to get rid of these marks around edges in order to make the subject look sharper.

There was some discussion about the problem a while back - https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/34531-blurring/

I don't believe the tutorial mentioned above will resolve the issue - the colour from the subject bleeds into the background and is still there even when the subject is "unblurred".  I ended up by copying the subject, cloning the background over the edges of the subject (so there's no bleed / halo), applying the blur and then pasting the subject back in.  If there's a quicker or more elegant way of doing it I'd love to know what it is.
