On a Mac, you can always find where an open file is stored using the File menu > Show in Finder item. I assume there is an equivalent for Windows.

Also, on a Mac these example files are stored in a temporary folder that is emptied each time the Mac is restarted. I do not know if the same is true for Windows.

... why not simply take advantage of the 'save as' option and store them to a destination of your choice? as long as you remember this you'll find them again with no hassle :)

I could be wrong about this, but I think the downloaded samples are always saved to the default location (a temp folder on Macs). Using "Save as" would create a duplicate, wasting disk space. Also note that these files are protected (Locked) for copyright reasons so for example you cannot copy elements to use in other documents.

... they cant be 'saved' normally (at least here on windows) obviously due to copyright reasons (absolutely clear and o.k. with this) so you have to perform 'save as' anyway when tweaking with them.

but 'wasting diskspace' shouldnt be any argument really with terrabyte-disks nowadays for a several MBs 'big' file  B)

"Save as" won't remove the protection, so there is no reason to use it unless you just want another edited copy stored in some location other than the default one. But since downloading several of these files can use a substantial amount of space on a system with a relatively small SSD, it can be useful to use the File > Open in Finder/Explorer option to locate & remove them once you no longer need them.
