Helmi
Hi, Affinity Designer. simple example: Circle with a vector line inside. This line has a stroke width of something like let's say 8px. Is there any chance to either create one shape with booleans and cutout that line from the circle below or negative mask that circle so it effectively has a cutout? I know I could draw the "shape" of the line with a closed vector loop and that would work but in my special (and more complex) examples this would be a nightmare. So summed up the question is: can you create a cut out based on a line and it's thickness instead of recreating the shape of the line with another outline? Thanks, Frank
Staff MEB Posted February 7, 2017 Staff Share Posted February 7, 2017 Hi Frank, Welcome to Affinity Forums :) You can convert the line's stroke directly to a shape going to menu Layer ▸ Expand Stroke. Isn't that what you are looking for? Helmi 1 Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software
Helmi
Oh yeah that looks like it does the job. Thanks.
PixelPest
Maybe for the freedom of a non-destructive approach you can use 2 segment objects: Cheers P.
JimmyJack
...... or negative mask that circle so it effectively has a cutout? [emphasis added by jj] In the "or" case.... You could set your line to Erase blend mode.
