What is the difference between a group and a layer?

Hi tomn,

A layer is just a container to place other objects inside - you can select each one directly/immediately clicking once on them on canvas. A group "groups" a bunch of objects as if they were only a single object. So when you click once on one of the objects of the group (on canvas) all the group is selected instead. To select an object that lays inside a group you have to double-click it - to enter the group and select the clicked object. To then select other objects inside the same group you only have to click them once (since you are already inside the group).

Groups are useful to keep several objects that you want to keep together intact - like the elements that compose a head on an character illustration for example.
