Colors parts of a shape differently

Recommended Posts

What kind of object is it? Vector or pixel? If pixel, just use different flood fills. If it is 2 vector objects that are grouped, they need to be ungrouped. Then the fill of each can be individually assigned.

If this is composed of 2 vector objects, they do not need to be ungrouped so their fills can be assigned differently, but from the description "this one curve" I wonder if this is one curve that folds back on itself or two separate ones.

It would help if the file itself was attached instead of the screenshot.

Hi kufloyd,

You have to draw closed shapes (ideally) to fill them with colour, like you did for the other two objects. Then place the triangle below the other two objects in the layers panel so they overlap it visually on the canvas. You can adjust the shape with the Node Tool if needed. See the clip attached below. I've drawn a triangle from scratch to show the whole process, but you can continue building the triangle from the line you already have there.

I used the Node tool, then Close curve, then changed the fill. See the attached screenshot.

it's one vector object drawn with the pen tool. here's the file. there are other objects in it, but my question is regarding curve1 in pizza3 layer. thanks!

I am not completely sure of what part you meant in your first post, but assuming it is the lower shape, this is the simplest way to do that:

thanks all for your replies. It seems like I need to create 3 different objects for it to have different colors. I tried it and it works.

One question though - how do you get the objects to line up perfectly next to each other? I can adjust the edges using node tool to have it be right next to each other and move it around so it lines up, but are there more efficient ways to do this? I attached an example to show how curve2 overlaps with curve3 a little bit in the pizza4 layer.

thanks.

To remove the overlap from two shapes, select both of them with the Move Tool [V] and press the 'Divide' button on the Geometry toolbar. The overlapping portion will now be a separate shape: select that shape and Shift-click the shape that you want it to belong to (so that the two shapes are both selected) and then go back to the Geometry toolbar and press the 'Add' button.

You can use snapping for example to snap the bottom node of curve 2 to the nearby node of curve 3. (The Object Creation snapping preset is ideal for this.) I also noticed that your pizza4 shapes are filled with less than 100% opacity. If you do not want or need this, I suggest setting them all to 100% opacity, which will allow you to reorder the curves so that (in this example) curve 2 can be placed behind curve 3 & simplified so its upper edges do not have to exactly match the edges of curve 2.

The attached shows one possibility using the above. The colors are somewhat different because they are now 100% opaque, so that would need adjustment.
