I've been scanning irreplaceable transparencies, some going back fifty-plus years. As I research the photos, I'm discovering information that should be kept with the photo. I've used paper in the past, only to find that other people don't have the same regard, and the data and slides get separated. When I discovered EXIF, I thought that'd be the best way to keep the photograph and the information together.

But I'm disappointed that I can't change ALL the EXIF information in Affinity. I'm using a Nikon LS-50 scanner, and that information appears in the EXIF panel. But I can't change the Date, the Author, or apply searchable keywords. I'm aware that EXIF has limitations and Affinity can't set up their own standard, but a user should be able to edit the info in a field even if the content differs from the intent of EXIF's creators. Nor does the Description field, while allowing me to input my own text, retain the information I've typed into it when I export or save the image.

I'm enjoying the process of exploring Affinity's capabilities. I love the control I have while editing faded transparencies (though I'd love a tutorial for Ektachrome--which seem to be the worst for colour shift). I think Affinity is the best value photo editing software I have ever used and I've commended it to a number of colleagues. But I could recommend it wholeheartedly if every function matched my expectation. Thanks for not being frightened of taking on the biggies in photo-editing software. Alan.
