chill59
I'm wanting to upload illustrations to iStock. Is the EPS export from Designer compatible with Adobe Illustrator AI10 (which is what they insist on)? If so, what 'Preset' do I chose (export, print or flatten)? What 'Raster DPI' and what 'Postscript level'? Thanks in anticipation.
Staff MEB Posted January 25, 2017 Staff Share Posted January 25, 2017 Hi chill59, Welcome to Affinity Forums :) No. Adobe Illustrator embeds an Ai file inside the EPS which it uses to keep all the elements/objects editable when the file is re-opened in Illustrator. Since the Ai format/data is private/proprietary we are not able to do the same and so EPS files exported from Designer are not fully editable in Illustrator as the ones exported from Illustrator itself. You can read more about this here. Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software | Affinity Quick Reference | Call for Camera Images
chill59
Damn! that's two days work wasted :( My fault ...should have asked first I suppose  Great program otherwise!
Bri-Toon
Damn! that's two days work wasted :( Perhaps not. PDF might be a better option to export your design in Designer. Then opening it in Illustrator, it will keep the vector quality and the layers will still be layers. Just be aware that any areas in which you have effects or gradients may look pixelated. Whenever having vector files compatible with multiple programs, I find PDF is the best option. But if you follow MEB's instructions on how to save a Designer file in an Illustrator format, that works too. (You need to have a copy of the Designer file first and then add ".ai" to the end of its name.) Quote The website is still a work in progress. The "Comics" and "Shop" sections are not yet ready. Feel free to connect with me and let me know what you like or what can be improved. You can contact me here, on my contact page, YouTube channel, or Twitter account. Thanks and have a great day! Will your workaround provide this?
Bri-Toon
Well MEB's link introduced it to me, so I haven't yet tried it for myself. I say it's worth a shot.
