rowbar
HI there. It has been suggested that Affinity might be a good alternative to the Adobe cc package. Questions are is there a plug in for LR6 for Affiinity? can it process the RAWs from Canon 5D mkIV? does anyone think I'd be better with Photoshop over Affinity? thanks! Staff MEB Posted January 24, 2017 Staff Share Posted January 24, 2017 Hi Rowena, Welcome to Affinity Forums :) 1. No. You can only add Affinity Photo as an External Editor for Lightroom 6. 2. Yes, Affinity Photo does support Canon EOS 5D Mark IV. 3. I will let this one for Affinity users for obvious reasons :) rowbar 1 Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software | Affinity Quick Reference | Call for Camera Images
Keith Reeder
does anyone think I'd be better with Photoshop over Affinity? Impossible for anyone else to answer that for you, Rowena (thought doubtless people will try) because only you know what you need from an image editor. I will say that for my purposes - as a bird/wildlife/motor sport photographer - Photo does everything I need, even though I'm a big fan of PhotoShop. But whether my experience chimes with your needs - who knows? rowbar 1 Quote Keith Reeder
rowbar
when you say external editor, do you mean, you select a photo and right click and then choose 'open in... ' as i do now with photoshop / nik collection? thanks
Staff MEB Posted January 24, 2017 Staff Share Posted January 24, 2017 Hi rowbar, Yes, you select a picture in Lightroom then open in/edit in the external editor you selected and the file is sent to that editor, in this case to Affinity Photo for editing. Then saving/closing it sends it back again to Lightroom. PaulAffinity
I have used PS for 5+ years - often for 8 hours in a day and for me - YES - Affinity does all that I need. I use NIK and Topaz plug-ins (I use Quick mask now instead of Topaz ReMask!) - I also do dodge & burn extensively - The other key features for me are WACOM support and a somewhat configurable UI... The rest of the key (basic and advanced) features are there and usable. IMHO with the 14 day money-back guarantee it is one for you to test. Enjoy! Alfred
IMHO with the 14 day money-back guarantee it is one for you to test. From previous discussions about this, obtaining a refund for the Windows version (via Serif's own Affinity Store) is very straightforward, but obtaining a refund for the Mac version (via Apple's Mac App Store) is rather less so, so it would probably be wise for Mac users to use the trial version before making a purchase decision.
